Course Overview

The SMBC Associate Degree of Ministry (AsDegMin) is designed to take your studies further than a diploma and give time for deeper reflection.

It will give you solid biblical foundations (Old Testament and New Testament) along with study of theology, ethics, church history, cross-cultural mission, preaching and pastoral care. It also provides room for electives which allow you to tailor your course to your interests, particularly ministry and mission focused units.

The AsDegMin is the equivalent of the first two years of the three year Bachelor degree and opens up pathways to further study. It equips you to serve in a local church, para-church ministry, or alongside your existing profession on the mission field. Full-time vocational ministry usually requires further study.

Note: Studying the AsDegMin full-time will also provide you the opportunity to concurrently do the SMBC Certificate in Bible and Mission (CBM). The CBM gives you access to all the benefits of SMBC’s expertise in spiritual formation, cross-cultural mission and pastoral ministry. It includes some extra classes, community activities, conferences and College Mission.

Student Testimonials

When Margy and I started studying the AsDegMin we were on a journey to learn more about God and his plan for us in this later stage of our lives. It’s true when people say you don’t know what you don’t know – our time spent intensively studying the Bible, and the practical side of ministry and missions, just showed us why we needed to go to SMBC. Please consider becoming a mature aged student like us, it’s been the best two years of my Christian walk with God!
