My God is so big: Helping kids discover all the character of God
God is loving and wrathful. He forgives and condemns. He finds delight in us and is grieved by us.
Our God is wonderfully big and complex - but not contradictory. Every part of his character is necessary and good. And our kids need to know him - all of him.
Join us at the SMBC 2020 Children's Ministry Conference and be encouraged in ways to help kids discover their BIG God!
Note: This conference is held simultaneously at two campuses - SMBC Croydon Campus and SMBC Roberts-Dale Campus. The programs at each campus are identical in content, including the 'Under 5s' seminars. Each person chooses one 12.50pm seminar and one 2.25pm seminar. My God is So Big – Bruce Linton
My God is a very, very big God. This statement is only exciting if the first word is there. There is so much to know about God but the real excitement lies in knowing him. This year we want to help children love the God that knows them so they can say. “Our Lord and God! You are worthy to receive glory and honour and power.”
Presentation - Quiz Worx
Performance - Josh Goscombe
1. Seeing My Big God – Sandy Galea
Stories make abstract concepts visible for children. Love, justice, mercy, compassion, holy, faithfulness... are all abstract concepts. Come and explore stories that help children see, know and love God in all his glory.
2. Enjoying My Big God – Kirrily Griffiths
Whether you are in a large church with many resources or a small church with limited resources this will be a very practical seminar, full of principles and ideas, to help every child in your church pray, praise and delight in the characteristics of their big God.
3. Obeying My Big God – Tim Beilharz
Jesus said that those who love him will obey his commands. Learn how to help children to obey King Jesus, while keeping grace at the centre of our discipleship?
4. Remembering My Big God – Andrew Horsefield
Recall of scripture helps God’s Word establish deep roots in our hearts. Carrying the truths of our big God with us is a daily reminder of His grace in Jesus and helps children fight the temptations around them. This seminar will dig into strategies including memory verses and catechisms that remind every child how big God is.
5. Showing And Telling My Big God – Adam Jolliffe
Some of God’s attributes stretch our minds. How then can children possibly understand how BIG God is when they are still struggling with concepts like eternity and infinity? Come along to see some creative ways which help children discover the wonder of God for themselves!
6. Knowing My Big God – Kerryn Rudder
Our God is big – bigger than we can understand! How can God be three and one at the same time? What does eternal mean? How can we teach children things that we struggle to understand ourselves? Come and think through some of God’s ‘trickier’ characteristics and explore ways we can help children grasp hold of them.
7. My Inclusive Big God – Kelly Peters
God loves us because we are made in his image, not because of what we can or cannot do in this world. To reflect the character of God in your children’s ministry, you need to include everyone. Come and explore how you can effectively include children with disabilities in your group.
8. Keeping God’s Character Central – Jana Koulouris
This seminar will explore ways we can draw children to see, trust and delight in God’s character when we are teaching scripture, kids clubs, holiday programs and special events.
9. Enjoying My Big God (Under 5s) – Naomi de Vries
This seminar will look at ways we can stir young hearts to express their delight in God. We will look at resources, tips and tools you can use when teaching young children to draw them to the wonder of who God is and what He is like; songs about God’s character we can sing together at church, playgroup and at home as well as tips and tools for helping young children pray.
10. Celebrating My Big God (Under 5s) – Fiona Singline
Celebrating Our Big God: how do we help under 5’s understand God's character as we celebrate key events on our calendars? This seminar explores a variety of ways to help the youngest in our church and community to celebrate God at Easter and Christmas, and at other church events like Pentecost Sunday, Baptisms and Communion.
