Part-Time Community and Student Care Worker (Residential Students)

From undergraduate to postgraduate and doctoral studies, SMBC's mission is to create learning communities through which God prepares his people – theologically, practically, and spiritually – to serve Jesus in diverse contexts and cultures.

Students studying full-time at SMBC can elect to live on campus as a residential student – a thoroughly immersive and forming experience. 

To support our students, we are seeking someone with a pastoral heart to join the SMBC team as  our part-time community and student care worker to:

  • Provide student care in individual and group settings to students at SMBC, with a particular focus on residential students.
  • Work with the management team and residential assistants to coordinate residential student placement, arrivals and departures.
  • Identify and respond to residential student needs or issues that may arise in relation to accommodation or communal living.
  • Develop opportunities for proactive pastoral care towards female residential students.
  • Triage students to appropriate specialist mental health providers and/or other services as needs arise.
  • Engage in regular college calendar events including orientation, graduation and community events.
  • Assist with prospective student interviews.
  • Assist with Community and Student Care services under the direction of the Director of Community and Student Care, as required.

Part-Time Community and Student Care Worker (Student Men) 

SMBC’s vision is to see thousands of loving skilled graduates bringing the light of Christ to a dark and needy world.

SMBC is both a residential and day college offering undergraduate through to postgraduate degrees.

Could you be our next part-time pastorally-hearted Community and Student Care Worker(male) with an emphasis on the support of our student men?

The primary objectives of this part-time position include:

  • Provision of pastoral care in individual and group settings, with a particular focus on our residential student men.
  • Attendance at weekly Community Care Team meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Triage of students to appropriate specialist mental health providers and/or other services as needs arise.
  • Development of opportunities for the provision of mentoring to male students living on campus at SMBC, in cooperation with fellowship group leaders and the Community Care Team.
  • Assist with Community and Student Care services in consultation with Director of Community and Student Care, as required.
  • Represent the College within the wider Christian community.
  • Compliance with SMBC WH&S, Privacy and other policies.
