Role at SMBC:
As part of the Christian Thought team, Matthew lectures in systematic theology.
Prior to SMBC:
Matthew studied accounting and finance at the University of Sydney (2005‒2010) while working as an auditor. He then studied for pastoral ministry at MTC (2011‒2014). From 2015 to 2018 he served as Associate Minister at Minchinbury Anglican Church. He completed his Master of Theology (2018‒2019) and PhD (2019‒2023) at the University of Edinburgh. While completing his PhD he lectured in Christian theology and ethics at Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh (2020‒2023). More recently he served as an Early Career Teaching and Research Fellow in Christian Theology at the University of Edinburgh (2025‒2026).
Personal:
Matthew is married to Larissa and they have two young daughters. He attends St. Faith’s Anglican Church, Narrabeen. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, training at the gym, going for walks, reading books and drinking coffee.
