My God is so big: Helping kids discover all the character of God - Postponed
2020 Women’s Conference
The word of God is living and active and powerful. By his word, God stilled the storm, made the universe out of nothing and brings spiritual life to dead people. By his word, God revives the soul, makes wise the simple and gives joy to the heart. That’s why expository preaching of God’s word lies at the heart of SMBC Women’s Conference. We believe there is nothing better we can give you.
Run for your life: Bible Talks from the Book of Hebrews
Anyone can line up at the start of a marathon but it’s the finishers who receive the prize. Running 40kms and then sitting in a deck chair doesn’t count. Watching others compete on TV doesn’t count. Reading ‘Runners World’ magazine doesn’t count. With heart pounding, muscles burning and joints jarring you have to keep putting one foot in front of the other until the finish tape. You have to persevere … 20, 30, 40, 41, 42kms.
The writer to the Hebrews wants his hearers to finish the race, to inherit all that God has promised. His letter teaches and encourages us to be finishers. He does it not merely with top tips for a training routine, or a motivational talk to spur us on to an ‘I think I can, I think I can’ gritted teeth determination – but by pointing us to Jesus who has finished and is urging us to run with Him.
Whether you’re at the start, nearing the end or somewhere in the middle miles, hearing God speak in Hebrews will help you run for your life.
"let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith." Hebrews 12:1-2
Clare grew up in Concord, not far from SMBC but has been working in gospel ministry in Perth since 2005, which she loves. She took a new role as the Assistant Minister - Women at Kallaroo Anglican Church in Perth in September 2019 and is still working out how best to approach that, but is enjoying meeting all the women there and getting to know them. She also lectures in Church History at Trinity Theological College. Clare's preferred method of relaxing and clearing her head is to drive several hundred (or thousand!) kilometres through wide open spaces like the WA wheat belt.
Janet loves spending time with students around the Bible and is thankful for lots of opportunities to do that in her role as the Dean of Women at SMBC. It’s a world away from her previous work as a country vet but similarly full of unexpected joys and challenges. She also loves photography, lazy days in the garden, visiting farmers’ markets and soaking up the banter at extended family meals.
Rachel loves teaching Church History at SMBC and exploring with students how our brothers and sisters from previous generations have run for their lives, and the way they have impacted us today in our approaches to ministry and the world. She is married to Ross, and together they are in ministry in multicultural Marrickville. They have two energy-filled boys who colour their lives with adventure and laughter, and certainly make life feel like running a marathon most days. Any time to herself is spent in the ocean, roaming an art gallery, or sneaking in a few pages of a good book.
All three talks can be purchased for $5/talk (audio) at our online store
