Study modes
SMBC offers a variety of study loads and delivery modes.
Overseas Students
We welcome overseas (student visa) and international (non student visa) students to enquire about study at SMBC.
Prerequisites
If you are not an Australian citizen or do not hold a permanent visa, you may need a student visa to study at SMBC. Information about obtaining a visa is available from the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
English language testing is required for potential students from non-English backgrounds. Please consult the AUT Admission Policy – English Language Proficiency, which can be found at – English language proficiency policy
Costs
There is a $200 application fee payable when you submit your application, and a $100 acceptance fee once your place is offered.
Students holding a student visa pay a different fee schedule to domestic students. Please view our fees page to see more.
To receive a Confirmation of Enrolment, which is required for your student visa application, you must pay your first semester’s tuition fees in full.
Accommodation is available for student visa holders. There are also other important costs to consider, including:
- SMBC CBM fees (see fees page)
- Visa application fees
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
- General living expenses while in Australia
Although student visas allow for limited paid employment, SMBC’s full-time study load is rigorous. Students will have a limited amount of time available for work, and should not rely on part-time employment to fund their studies.
Application process
We’re excited that you’re considering studying at Sydney Missionary and Bible College (SMBC). Below is a step-by-step guide to the application process for students requiring a student visa:
Step 1: Apply for Full-Time Study
The first step is to apply for full-time study at SMBC. This involves completing an application form, providing important documentation (such as academic transcripts, passport, and English language proficiency), providing details of references, attending an interview as well as paying the $200 application fee.
Once your SMBC application is complete , accepted and you have paid the $100 acceptance fee, we will submit your documentation to the Australian University of Theology (AUT) to confirm your eligibility for your chosen course. This ensures you meet the formal entry requirements for study in Australia.
Step 2: Complete Application Forms
You will complete the AUT course enrolment form and select your first semester’s units. You will also need to complete a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) form.
Step 3: Documentation Submission & Approval
SMBC will submit your documentation (including the above forms) to the AUT for processing.
Once your application is accepted, the AUT will issue a Student Agreement. SMBC will then send you your college offer letters and contract documents, along with an invoice for your first semester’s tuition fees.
Step 5: Arrange Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
You will need to purchase OSHC as part of your visa application. For more information on approved providers, see: Study Australia OSHC Information.
We recommend ensuring your OSHC covers you from shortly before your course begins until after your expected completion date.
Step 6: Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and Visa Application
Once your first semester tuition fees are paid in full, SMBC will request that the AUT issue a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). You can then use the CoE to apply for a Subclass 500 Student Visa.
Please note: student visa places are limited each year and acceptance is subject to availability.
CRICOS Provider Code
Courses provided at SMBC, which are available to international students pending a successful SMBC application process, on behalf of the Australian University of Theology, are listed on the ‘Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)’.
The Australian University of Theology (AUT) CRICOS Provider Code is 02650E.
Closing dates
The application and visa process for international students can take significant time, and most students prefer to have their visa approved before booking travel.
For this reason, we strongly recommend that international students begin their application at least six months prior to their intended start at SMBC.
