Bachelor of Divinity

Admission requirements: A bachelor degree or equivalent

The SMBC Bachelor of Divinity (BDiv) is designed to prepare you for full-time vocational ministry. At AQF level 7, it’s possible for those already with an undergraduate degree to study whilst still receiving Fee-Help and Centrelink support*. It can be studied full-time or part-time.

The Bachelor will give you comprehensive biblical foundations (Old Testament and New Testament) along with deeper study of theology, ethics, church history, missions, preaching and pastoral care. It also provides electives to allow you to choose areas to specialise in and opportunities to integrate your studies with the contemporary world. There is no requirement to include capstone, specialised or project units in this course.

Studying the Bachelor full-time will also provide you the opportunity to concurrently do the SMBC Certificate in Bible and Mission (CBM). The CBM gives you access to all the benefits of SMBC’s expertise in spiritual formation, cross-cultural mission and pastoral ministry.  It includes some extra classes, community activities, conferences and College Mission.

The Bachelor also opens up pathways to further study at masters level, for example, the Master of Theological Studies. If for any reason your circumstances make it not possible to complete your Bachelor studies, it is possible to graduate with a Diploma (which requires 96 credit points) or Associate Degree (which requires 192 credit points).

The Bachelor of Divinity will equip you to preach, teach and provide leadership in ministry and mission – in Australia and overseas. It is well recognised by most denominations and mission agencies.
