Why bother studying Chronicles? Isn’t it mostly just a list of names? Doesn’t it just rehash history already covered in Samuel and Kings?
In this unit we’ll read Chronicles as a message to its audiences, rebuilding their lives after the Babylonian exile. Perhaps despondent and disillusioned, we’ll explore how the Chronicler uses earlier biblical texts to craft a message for these audiences. Through the intertwined themes of kingdom and temple, worship and the people of God, we'll uncover similarities and differences as we consider the relevance of this book for us as Christians today.
