Dr Janson Condren

Head of Old Testament

B.A. (Maths) M.Div. Th.M, Ph.D (Old Testament)

Role at SMBC:

As the Head of the Old Testament team, Janson oversees the teaching of Old Testament at SMBC. He creates opportunities for planning and collaboration amongst his team and, as part of the Academic Board, supports the Director for Teaching and Learning. Janson also leads a college fellowship group with his wife, Heather.

Prior to SMBC:

Originally from Ohio, USA, Janson received his M.Div. and Th.M from Baptist Bible Seminary in Pennsylvania (1996, 1998), and his Ph.D. in Theological Studies (Old Testament emphasis) from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago (2005).  His dissertation examined literary cohesion and the theme of divine presence in Numbers 1-10.  Janson also completed a year of postgraduate study at Hebrew University in Jerusalem (1999), taught undergraduate Bible at Trinity International University in Chicago (2001-2005), and was an editor of Trinity Journal (2000-2005).

Academic Interests:

The Pentateuch (especially Genesis 1-11, Numbers and Deuteronomy), 1 & 2 Samuel, OT narrative and OT ethics

Personal:

Janson attends St. James Anglican Church, Croydon, and is married to Heather.  They have three young children.  Janson enjoys “small wave” days at the beach, keeping up with American baseball, and an authentic Mexican restaurant.
