The statistics paint a picture of desperate need amongst the least reached. Only three percent of our missionary force, armed with only one percent of missions giving, is going to reach the two billion people who don't have access to the gospel (see Global Frontier Missions).
Over 80 percent of Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims do not personally know a Christian - they have no one to tell them the good news (see Joshua Project). But behind the statistics are real people. Boys and girls who wake up and go to sleep, live and die, without ever hearing the good news of Jesus.
On This Mountain transforms the statistics into people as it follows Tashi, Dolma and Tenzin while they enjoy a day at a festival. This book not only reminds us and our children of the great need to reach the lost, but also reminds us of God's truths and leads us to prayer.
A book that is relatable, On This Mountain is missional and thoroughly Biblical - and we hope will ultimately drive families and people teaching our children to pray. It is a resource unlike any other available today and suitable for children three to twelve.
Author and Illustrator:
Nicholas R. Lindeback is part of the Unreached and Unengaged Collective. He loves teaching children and youth about Jesus, and mobilising the church for Christ's commission to the least reached.
Stephen Reed is a freelance artist and SMBC graduate who loves drawing people and mountains. Born in Nepal and growing up in view of the Himalayas, he has a heart for people to know Jesus, and to encourage others to pray for those who have not met Him.
Reviews:
‘Our children can play a vital role in helping people who have no opportunity to hear about Jesus find him. I highly recommend this book as an excellent way to help children take their first steps in praying for the lost and growing a heart for the remaining unreached peoples’
Dr Richard Hibbert, Director of the SMBC Centre for Cross-Cultural Mission
‘An excellent book, grounded in the word of God and prayer, that will grow in kids a heart for unreached people’
Eleanor Travers-Robinson, Children’s Worker, Wild Street Anglican Church
‘On this Mountain is a unique and easy to read book which clearly presents the need to pray for people who have never heard about Jesus’ saving love. The clear and beautiful pictures make it easy for children to understand what an ‘unreached people group’ and their different culture might look like. This is a great resource to help explain to kids why many people have never heard of God’s love’
Howard Spencer, AFES International Ministries, CMS Director and former missionary
